IC design manufacturer Egic announced that it will cooperate with GlobalFoundries, the Grolfonde 55-nanometer platform has introduced a new directTime-of-Flight (dToF) sensing solution, locking up new markets such as smart phones, Internet of Things (IoT) and vehicles, providing more advanced intelligent sensing capabilities.

SHIELD pointed out that Grofontein's first front-illuminated (FSI) SPAD component has the industry-leading dark metric rate (DCR) and near-red extra-red photon detection rate (NIR PDP), providing high noise ratio dToF sensing. The component is integrated into Grofontein's multifunctional 55-nanometer platform, allowing high-pressure bias, VCSEL drive, MCU and distance core to complete system-level integration (SoC) in a single chip, with smaller size and better performance, and at the same time, it has advantages in power consumption and cost.

Shidden, the world's leading under-screen fingerprint sensing supplier, will start strategic cooperation with Grofangde from 2022 to enter the military new 3D sensing market. The new FSI SPAD application scenarios include: laser automatic focus of mobile phones, laptops and projectors, personnel detection for smart home appliances to improve energy efficiency, and obstacle avoidance functions of robots and unmanned machines.
