Not olive oil! Research confirms that "1 kind of oil" can better control blood sugar. Doctor reminds: Never cook it until it smokes again

Many people only use sesame oil as a seasoning, but in fact its health benefits are beyond imagination! A new study recently published in BMC Nutrition conducted a clinical randomized trial on 60 women with fatty liver disease (MASLD). They were divided into two groups: each ate 30 grams of sesame oil or sunflower oil per day, combined with a low-calorie diet, for 12 weeks. Both groups lost weight, but in terms of blood sugar control, the sesame oil group performed far better than the sunflower oil group.

in 12 After weeks, the blood sugar-related indicators of the sesame oil group had significant improvements:

{9 99}

1. Fasting blood glucose (FBG): the sesame oil group decreased by 18.2 mg/dL, and the sunflower oil group only decreased by 4.3 mg/dL

2. Fasting insulin (FSI): the sesame oil group decreased by 3.2µIU/mL, and the sunflower oil group only decreased by 0.5 µIU/mL

3. Insulin resistance (HOMA-IR): the sesame oil group decreased by 1.4, and the sunflower oil group only decreased by 0.3

4. Pancreatic isletβ Cell function (HOMA-β): the sesame oil group increased by 15.6, and the sunflower oil group only increased by 3.2

Sesame oil is not only a "condiment for weight loss", it can more effectively lower blood sugar, improve insulin efficiency, and enhance pancreatic islet β cell function, which has the potential to delay or even prevent diabetes.

Why can sesame oil lower blood sugar?

Sesame oil helps blood sugar control through three major pathways:

1. Metabolic pathway: Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) can protect pancreatic islet cells, improve insulin sensitivity, regulate lipid metabolism genes, and reduce insulin resistance.

2. Hormonal pathway: MUFA can stimulate the secretion of GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1), promote insulin release and enhanceβ cell function.

3. Antioxidant pathway: Antioxidants such as sesamin and vitamin E can scavenge free radicals, protect cells and promote glucose uptake and insulin secretion.

Sesame oil will not destroy nutrients if used cold.

Although olive oil, canola oil, flaxseed oil, etc. are also beneficial, many studies have pointed out that sesame oil is particularly outstanding in blood sugar control. But please note that in this study, participants were asked to use the oil "cold" and not for frying:

. Pour over salad

. Mix in rice or noodles

. Add it to cooked dishes

This can prevent high temperature from destroying the sesamin, vitamin E and other nutrients in sesame oil, doubling the health effects!

For people with fatty liver, Qian Zhenghong, a gastrointestinal and hepatobiliary physician, emphasized that moderate intake of sesame or sesame oil is beneficial. Sesame is rich in vitamin E, which helps improve liver inflammation and reduce damage to liver cells. It also contains a variety of lignans, such as sesamin, sesamelin and sesamol, which not only provide antioxidants but also help stabilize blood sugar!
