Zou Weiping, executive secretary of the Banking and Financial Services Union (BFSU), a subsidiary of the

Banking and Financial Services Union, said in response to the Lianhe Zaobao inquiry on Friday (June 27) that he is working with employers, the Employment and Functional Training Centre (e2i), and the Singapore Banking and Financial Institute (IBF) to assist affected employees in finding another way out.

The National Workers' Federation (NTUC) is assisting employees of the laid-off Standard Chartered Bank, and the authorities will also hold a career exchange exhibition to provide a series of consulting and employment opportunity support.

Standard Chartered Bank reported last week that it reorganized its business in Singapore, and about 80 employees were laid off, mainly from the technology and operations department. Related positions are reportedly transferred to India.

She pointed out that as an employment development partner in the financial industry, IBF will also cooperate with e2i and BFSU to provide employees with career consultation and employment opportunities.

Zou Weiping said that the union is actively contacting affected employees and providing support to them through employment media, career guidance and skill improvement services provided by the Vocational General Office. She stressed: "We encourage all companies to communicate with the union at least one month in advance before notifying employees of layoffs so that we can assist affected employees as soon as possible."

The vocational general also held a career exchange meeting and employment exhibition from 4:30 pm to 7:00 pm on July 3 (Thursday). Employers from the financial services industry will introduce job openings including operations, technology, transactions, project management and software development.

Qualified members can also apply for the Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP) to subsidize the training costs required for skill improvement.

The General Office calls on affected Standard Chartered employees to call 6295 2975 or email bfsu@ntuc.org.sg for assistance during office hours.
