According to the Sun, former Manchester United talent Ebanks Black sued the doctor who had previously performed surgery on him, claiming £7 million for the doctor who had performed "unnecessary" and "destructive" operations on him.

39-year-old Ebanks Black underwent surgery after a leg fracture in 2013. The retired striker failed to fully recover after the surgery and never returned to the top league.

Ebanks Black believes that his surgeon Professor James Calder performed "unnecessary" and "destructive" operations on his ankle, resulting in the early end of his career. His lawyer, Simon Muskerry, told Judge Lambert in the London High Court: "If it is not broken, don't repair it." In addition, Ebanks Black also claimed that he was not fully solicited before the operation. However, Professor Calder's lawyer argued that Ebanks Black overestimated his abilities and had too high expectations for the results of the surgery. Professor Calder's lawyer Martin Ford added: "The defendant will argue that it was his clinical skills that extended the career of the professional football player who suffered serious injuries." Ebanks Black was a promising striker when he was young and had played for the England U21 national team. He played for Manchester United's youth training camp and transferred to Plymouth in 2006. Two years later, he joined Wolves and became the main player, scoring 62 goals for Wolves 193 appearances, including 10 goals in the Premier League. In 2009, he helped the team advance to the Premier League and formed a famous forward team with Irish international Kevin Doyle.

However, Ebanks-Blake's career was severely affected after a fibula fracture. He left Wolves after the end of that season and went to multiple clubs, and finally announced his retirement in 2019 due to another leg fracture.
